People with special dietary requests get served first on most flights. This includes vegetarians and those who prefer gluten free food. You can take a look at some of the special meals on the menus if you would like to be served first so you can get to sleep faster. Some airlines allow you pick your meal online before you even board the plane, so check on the airline website.
According to experts, flying will dehydrate you. Keep hydrated all through the trip. This will also help you limit the amount of food you eat onboard reducing the chances of indigestion, if you’re prone to that. Rather than waiting for beverage service, bring a bottle of water on board with you. If you don’t want to pay exorbitant amounts for a bottle of water in the airport, bring an empty bottle with you and fill it up after you get through security and before you board the plane. Women can choose bottoms that don’t constrict, such as leggings or very loose pants. You don’t want to endure a tight waistband that digs into you for hours on end. A long cardigan or pullover will give you warmth when the temperature drops in your cabin.

The plane is not exactly the quietest place on earth. The noise can be a bit stressful with crying babies, the rumbling of the plane, and general chatter.
Noise-canceling headphones will ensure that you have peace and quiet all through the trip providing better rest for you. Noise will keep you awake and irritated. Some meditation sounds and music may help you rest. However, over-the-ear headphones can make finding a comfortable sleeping position difficult. Other methods are Bonine (meclizine) and Dramamine (dimenhydrinate) which are motion sickness medications that also double admirably as sleep aids. Antihistamines like Sominex and Benadryl contain diphenhydramine HCl, which can cause drowsiness. Many other swear by melatonin. Before you try any of these methods, ask your doctor, especially if you take other medications. The last thing you want is some sort of medical episode on a plane.
